Sangju, Korea: The Shincheonji Church of Jesus Taekwondo Team once again made headlines on the world stage by securing medals across the board at the 2025 Park Chung-hee Cup International Open Taekwondo Competition.
The competition, hosted by the Park Chung-hee Cup Organizing Committee alongside the Gyeongbuk Taekwondo Association and the Sangju City Taekwondo Association, brought together around 4,200 athletes from 18 countries including Korea, the U.S., and France. Held from July 18–21 at the Sangju Indoor Gymnasium, the event tested skills across multiple categories such as poomsae, sparring, breaking, and kicking.
Despite limited preparation time, all 25 Shincheonji athletes competing in the official poomsae event on July 19 delivered remarkable performances. The team collectively secured 4 golds, 7 silvers, and 14 bronzes, ensuring every participant returned home with a medal.
This achievement follows their success earlier this month at the 2025 Kim Un-yong Cup International Open Taekwondo Competition in Busan, where all 12 participants also won medals. Combined with their strong showing at the 2024 Mungyeong World Taekwondo Festival, the team continues to prove its strength and consistency at both domestic and international levels.
Gold medalist Lee Jun-wi reflected, “Although our training time was short, we focused intensively, and I’m thankful that our efforts paid off.” Coach Kim Deok-hoon praised the team’s discipline, saying, “This competition featured many excellent domestic and international players. I’m proud our athletes displayed their skills confidently. We will prepare more systematically for future events.”
Beyond sporting achievements, Shincheonji Church of Jesus emphasizes talent development, cultural exchange, and healthy community engagement. Through sports like Taekwondo, the organization continues to foster resilience, teamwork, and international goodwill.
